What if Clary and Jonathan grew up together? What if Jocelyn managed to escape with both of them? What if she taught Jonathan what family, love and humanity is not by rejecting him but showing him through being there?
What if they were bickering over crayons and coals when they are little and they are drawing pictures of stuff for mommy? “That’s my crayon Jonathan” “I need this colour, redhead” “Stop calling me that or I’ll smash this pot on your head” “Go ahead, mom will kill you” “I don’t care, it will be worth it!” and they struggle and pot smashes on the floor and they burst out laughing and then they clean up together and when Jocelyn comes back they are drawing one picture together not an inch of dirt on the floor and she thinks she did good?
What if they are on the cleaning duties and Jonathan leaves a pile of dirty dishes in the sink though it’s his turn and Clary yells: “Jonathan Christopher! You’re on cleaning duties! I’m not washing after you, you jerk” and he’s in his room, casually reading giant volume on occultism and she barges in with her hands on her hips and he just states calmly “I’m in the middle of something Clarissa kindly close the door” and it makes her explode, that stoic condescending tone of his and she throws wet dishtowel at his face and he gasps: “Did you just throw this at me?” “No shit, Sherlock” “I’m so gonna get you now!” he gets up abruptly and they are chasing each other around the kitchen and he gets to her and tries to smear the towel all over her face in revenge while she giggles and in the end they do the washing up together “You owe me one” Clary nudges him and Clary knows he will help her clean the house in return because he has her back just as much as she has his and when Jocelyn comes back and sees them doing the dishes together she thinks she did good?
What if the apartment in NY is filled with pictures of them together goofing around and laughing with little doodles for Jocelyn on Mother’s Day, portraits of her and Luke and caricature of each other hang on the fridge and Jocelyn sometimes stops in the middle of making dinner, smiling at these pieces of happiness spread all around the house and thinks to herself how this is home and how they managed. How they all did good.
And what if she was his sister and he was her brother and nothing else mattered but this: home, family and being there for each other for better and for worse, despite the blood, the past and prejudice of the world?
People criticizing TFIOS because Gus sounds pretentious???
that was the point???
like literally at his fake funeral his best friend talks about how fucking pretentious he is and how annoying it was???
It was one of his character flaws? He was deliberately written that way?
You’re not being clever or critical by pointing it out, you are literally stating a fact about the novel that the author deliberately wrote
